VAT/GST calculator
VAT/GST Calculator
Choose a country tax rate or enter your own tax percentage by hand.
20% VAT applied for UK.
How the VAT/GST calculator works
Choose a country reference rate or enter a manual percentage, then select whether the amount excludes or includes tax. The calculator separates the net price, tax amount, and gross price so the relationship between the figures is visible.
VAT and GST formulas
For a price excluding tax, calculate Tax = Net × rate ÷ 100, then Gross = Net + Tax. For a price that already includes tax, calculate Net = Gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), then Tax = Gross − Net.
Example
If a net price is 100 and the selected rate is 20%, the tax amount is 20 and the gross price is 120. If 120 is entered as a tax-inclusive amount at the same rate, the calculator returns a net price of 100 and included tax of 20.
Choosing the correct rate
Country rates are convenient references, not a determination that a rate applies to a specific transaction. Reduced rates, exemptions, place-of-supply rules, registration thresholds, product categories, and rule changes can affect the correct treatment. Confirm important calculations using current official guidance or a qualified adviser.
FAQ
Can I use the calculator for GST or sales-style percentage tax?
Yes, when the tax is calculated as a percentage of the net amount or extracted from a tax-inclusive total using the same formula.
Does Cromtra file or validate tax returns?
No. This is an informational calculation tool and does not file returns, validate registrations, or provide tax advice.
Why can rounding differ from an invoice system?
Some systems round each line while others round the invoice total. Small differences can result from the required local rounding method.
