How the currency converter works

Select a source currency, destination currency, and amount. The selected pair's reference rate is fetched when the currencies change, while amount edits reuse that rate so the result updates without unnecessary requests.

If both currencies are the same, the converter uses a rate of 1. Reference rates and currency names are cached in the browser for up to 12 hours to reduce repeated network requests; entered conversion amounts are not stored.

Reference rates and conversion costs

Rates are supplied by Frankfurter as informational daily reference rates. They are not live trading quotes and may not include a bank spread, card-network rate, payment-provider markup, transfer fee, weekend adjustment, cash exchange margin, or other transaction cost.

The reference date shown with the result indicates the rate date returned by the service. Market conditions and provider pricing can change after that date.

Example use

A seller can use the converter to estimate how a listed amount compares in another currency before checking the final settlement rate offered by a bank or payment provider. For accounting, invoicing, tax reporting, or an actual payment, use the rate and method required by the relevant institution or authority.

Does the converter fetch a new rate on every keystroke?

No. Rates are fetched when the selected currency pair changes and are cached locally for up to 12 hours.

Why is my bank's result different?

Banks and payment services may use different market timestamps, spreads, fees, card-network rules, or account-specific pricing.
